Cross Training/Injury Prevention/Wellness

This workshop will highlight the ways in which cross-training can be an effective tool for improving dance technique and preventing injury. In the second half of the workshop, we will put some cross-training principles to work as the dancers are led through a dance-specific cross-training warm-up.

Marissa Schaeffer is a graduate of SUNY Purchase College Conservatory of Dance, a CSCS certified trainer and is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Columbia University. Marissa works with dancers on safe, effective ways to prevent injury and to support the longevity of their careers. She has worked with dancers from SUNY Purchase, Columbia University, Mark Morris, Doug Varone, Nomadic Artist and Lydia Johnson dance companies, and has touched 200+ young dancers at competitive studios with her workshop: Mindful Practice. She has also written and contributed to articles that have appeared on WeckMethod.com, qinetic.com, The Epoch Times, and Dance Informa Magazine. In 2015, Mindful Practice appeared in Dance Studio Life Magazine's feature article.
