The Remarkable Career of Lucinda Childs

A conversation with the artist and a film screening

Julius S. Held Auditorium, Lecture Hall 304 Barnard Hall

Lucinda Childs began choreographing in the 1960s with the Judson Dance Theater and became an avant-garde celebrity in the Philip Glass opera Einstein on the Beach. Her dances set a high bar for multi-disciplinary collaboration: Dance (1979) paired Glass and minimalist artist Sol LeWitt, while Available Light (1983) brought together the composer John Adams and architect Frank Gehry. Join us for a rare public screening of Lucinda Childs, Patrick Bensard’s documentary about her remarkable career, followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, dancer Vincent McCloskey, and Lucinda Childs herself.
